Free Tutorial - Laptop Sleeve Page 3

At this stage I made the decisions about final size.. I cut a piece of furnishing-weight cotton woven fabric two-and-a-half times as long as the long dimension on my laptop, and added 3 inches to the width. I layered this with a good cotton batting like so

At this point, if you have a bigger laptop, you will need to add more blocks to the rows, or possibly add a strip down each edge when you have sewn the blocks onto the backing.. In any case, cut the back/batting part to the dimensions you need..

I laid the first strip of four blocks on top of the batting aligning the pieced block with one edge and starting in the middle of the backing..
For some reason this is easier than working from one end and means you can add and quilt two strips at a time.
I laid the next strip on top, right sides together and matching the seam allowances carefully, but turning the strip around and aligning the pieced block to the opposite edge.. I sewed (walking foot time, now) the two layers and the backing/batting sandwich together and flipped the second strip to its right side.
I chose a pretty thread

I kept the quilting really simple, just rows of not-very-straight lines about 1/4 inch apart, and quilted the first two pieces down until they were all held firmly.

I added strips to either side, stiching and flipping then quilting each time. I call this technique Integrated Quilting, and I didn't make it up - have found this all over the web like a rash.. If you know where it started please let me know so I can credit..
